Inspiration Avenue, hosted by Shelley and her mom, Loretta, is challenging you to participate in something to do with a mother's hands. Loretta says...
Did you know that the word hand appears in the King James Bible 1296 times? Now that definitely shows us how important hands were to God, our creator. Don’t you know He put a lot of thought into creating our hands, knowing all the things they would do for us in our day to day activities?
Being uninspired, but loving the picture of my mother and me in 2000 just before she died, I used it as a tool to try and draw my mother's hands; in this case, it was her left hand.
I had always loved her hands. Those bright red fingernails were one of her fashion signatures.
This is the sketchbook drawing:
And here is mother's (cropped) left hand.
It was a true art challenge, but it was a way to say "Happy Mother's Day" in a fond remembrance.
Please go here and join in the challenge.

ReplyDeleteOH Nancy, that is beautiful - the words and the drawing. Choking back tears over here. Such a celebration of your mother. What a beautiful picture of the two of you to cherish...
ReplyDeleteNancy, how beautiful! You did a fine job artistically with the hands. Your tribute to your mother does indeed evoke deep emotion.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful idea and drawing. Hands are so extremely difficult and you've done an amazing job! Even the shine on the nails...wonderful! Happy Mother's Day :)
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is lovely but also your idea is wonderful - it made me think of my mothers hands - always dirty with coal dust as we had open fires! her opal ring, the only jewellery, She read palms and her own told openly of the bumpy road she walked. Lovely to ponder for a moment. Betty x

ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful memory you have shared with us...your photo is touching and i love your drawing too...xxx
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, one of the last things I did with my mum was trace round her hand so that I could embroider it (along with the rest of the familys' hands) on samplers for a remembrance present. I told her all about what I was doing and stitched beside her bed - I think she probably heard me although she couldn't respond. It is so beautiful to see that you used your own art to do something similar. It isn't Mother's Day here yet, but you have reminded me of some very special memories and I am grateful that you shared your own, too. Thanks for your kind and caring comments - I am taking the evening off and having a good rest!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful creation. Happy Mother's Day!
