Thank The Lord

It now being the early morning of Thanksgiving Day in the USA, it came to mind the phrase "thank the Lord".  I can clearly hear my grandmother saying those words even though it has been three decades since she has gone to her eternal reward.   Mom usually said that phrase in an off-the-cuff manner and, most often, in such a quiet tone that only she was meant to hear.

So now, thank the Lord, I am sitting in a warm house, in front of a cozy fire, hot coffee nearby, hoping you are looking at your day ahead with a grateful heart and praying you are counting your blessings, as well.
We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to his name: He forgets not his own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!
We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
Amen

  1. I am not a crafty person, so I'd not have ordinarily found your blog. But I noticed your Icon pic, in comments elsewhere... and your _glasses_ caught my eye.

    Looking at my Icon pic, you will understand why.

    I love my Signature glasses frames! Never seen anyone (outside of NYC) wearing them. :-) Which is exactly how I like it. -grin-

    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Tessa~

  4. A beautiful hymn Nancy...love your table arrangement photo too! I was telling my son the other day about things we may have heard as kids that a relative or older family friend said in passing. And, those seemingly small phrases or words we heard stay with us through our lives. I asked him to think about it and see if he can remember someone who said or did something that still lives in his mind. i see you did...hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs! ♥

  6. That sounds comforting and uplifting at the same time. How sweet your grandmother used to start your family's meal like that.
